Fox News stunt I am very disappointed that the Bangor Daily News chose not to run the Doonesbury comic strip this week and instead replaced it with what must be fill-in panels. Even the Houston Chronicle, a newspaper in the very conservative state of Texas, is running the panels on its editorial pages. Reproductive choice for women is being eroded and the people of Maine could be informed on the subject in a somewhat humorous, somewhat ironic manner, should the newspaper do its job. The city of Cincinnati may soon be losing it’s not-so-desirable status as the “Bed Bug Capitol of the United States.” Today, officials announced that the number of residents who are dealing with bed bugs has declined in just the past two years. Cincinnati might not be a national leader in bed bug cases much longer fewer residents reported having problems with them last year. Eighteen percent of people living in the city reported bed bugs in 2011 a decrease over the previous year, when the percentage was 22, according to the Greater Cincinnati Survey conducted by the University of Cincinnatis Institute for Policy Research. CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) – Data released from the Greater Cincinnati Survey conducted by the University of Cincinnati’s Institute for Policy Research demonstrates that Cincinnati residents experiencing problems with bed bugs have declined from 22 percent in 2009 to 18 percent in 2010*. Cincinnati Health Department officials point to this data as an indication that the City’s aggressive outreach and education efforts are working. These results are an encouraging sign that knowledge has been gained and applied about how to limit the spread of the pesky insects.
