A couple from Nashville, Tennessee is suing an OFallon hotel for more than $250,000 following an alleged infestation of bed bugs during their stay. The hotels attorneys are fighting to dismiss the case and the hotel manager says bed bugs are not a problem.

Antwaine and Woodrow Ross allege the Days Inn OFallon hotel knew the critters Cinex lectularius, commonly known as bed bugs due to their tendency to be found in bedding, infested their rooms. The suit claims hotel employees did not warn guests of the bugs before they stayed in the hotel from March 19, 2010 through May 21, 2010, according to court documents.

The Rosses seek more than $50,000 from each of five counts, which include claims the hotel violated the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Practices Act by concealing the infestation. Days Inn attorneys have filed a motion to dismiss four of the five counts claiming in part that the Rosses misapprehend what constitutes a nuisance and a concurrent suit to stop an alleged nuisance and they fail to show the Days Inn acted with deliberate intention to harm.

Current hotel manager David Boan said the company has a different owner since the Rosses stayed at the hotel, located at 1320 Park Plaza Drive. He said bed bugs have not been an issue since he began employment with the company in November 2011, but noted the nuisance can be commonly treated.

Bed bugs feed off the blood of sleeping humans, causing itching and bumps to their victims. The lawsuit was filed against the hotels owner group, Caseyville Hotel Investors LLC, on March 21 in St. Clair County court. The manager of the owner group is Sanjay T. Patel, according to a database hosted on the website of the Illinos Secretary of State. Patel did not respond to a request to be interviewed.

The Rosses allege the bed bugs hitched a ride in their luggage from the hotel to their home in Tennessee. The couple claims the infestation forced them to destroy clothing, furniture, bedding, a mattress, and to fumigate the home. Along with reimbursement for those alleged losses, the couple also claims the infestation caused extensive emotional distress and loss of sleep and seek compensation for medical treatment and residual scarring from the bugs.

When the couple complained to the hotel, they claim the property manager at the time and other employees confirmed some rooms in the hotel had bed bugs, according to court documents.

The Better Business Burea has rated the hotel a C+, mostly due to three allegations of bed bug-related issues since 2010. The complaints stem from stays in October 2011, November 2011, and March 2012.

In the October 2011-related complaint, representatives with Days Inn OFallon say the company takes complaints of bed bugs very seriously since it could destroy us in a very short period and point to a national epidemic of the pests in 2010.

To prevent bed bug issues, the hotel states a program was instituted in 2010 that included:

Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) April 27, 2012

New York has become more accepting of bed bug presence. A report from nbcnewyork.com dated April 24 said that panic over bed bugs has subsided in the city. However, the pests still remain a big problem to the residents. And so, BedBugBully.com suggested the use of a spray to kill bed bugs fast and easy and to avoid a major infestation.

According to the report, New Yorkers’ panic over bed bugs has now turned to acceptance as evident in their tone in bed-bug-related calls. Getting bed bugs is not as shocking anymore to the residents said Natalie Raben of one of the city’s extermination firms.

Apart from the people’s reaction about the pests’ presence, there were also changes in the number of complaints and calls about bed bugs. As detailed by the report, the complaints received by the city’s Department of Housing, Preservation and Development decreased by 12 percent compared to the previous fiscal year. In number, the recorded 10 241 complaints went down to 9 029.

Here is part of the report Panic Over Bed Bugs Ebbed Out in New York from BedBugBully.com

In the recent list of bed bug infested cities, New York ranked high. It placed at number nine. However, things are looking up for New Yorkers. Panic over bed bugs and even the number of bed bug cases reportedly went down this year.

Based on the Department of Housing, Preservation and Development’s record, complaints about bed bug infestation in the city decreased by 12 percent this fiscal year. From 10, 241 last year, the complaints went down to 9, 029 this year. Even bed bug complaints against landlords jumped down this year for 19 percent numbering from 3 3559 to 2. 893. Calls regarding bed bugs also decreased by 17 percent with last years’ 8, 736 falling to 7, 245.

Read more of the report New York’s Panic Over Bed Bugs Now Lulled at: http://www.bedbugbully.com/blog/york-warmed-bed-bugs-panic-pests-subsided

It’s true that there are several unpleasant things that go with bed bug presence. However, panicking can’t kill them said BedBugBully.com. It advised the public to prepare for their presence and be calmer when it happens instead of going into frenzy over the possibility of their infestation. With that, it added, anybody can get ready and implement a better bed bug elimination strategy.

One idea to prepare for bed bug presence that the website suggested is the purchase of a bed bug spray. The product can kill the pests fast and easy so it can also prevent a massive infestation, said the site. However, it only recommended the use of biodegradable solutions. That’s so victims can kill bed bugs naturally, safely and effectively.

Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) March 23, 2012

Last Monday, March 12, 2012, a bed bug treatment went bad in Indianapolis. Report from Wane.com said that two men tried to eliminate bed bugs but ended up burning their house. Wanting to help other bed bug sufferers avoid the same disaster, BedBugControl911.com suggested the implementation of a much safer bed bug treatment.

As said in the report, the fire happened at about 11:30 in the morning. It took 11 fire crews to put out the burning house which was located at 900 block of Lexington Avenue. The flames left the property owners $15 000 worth of damages.

The two men said to have tried to eliminate the bed bugs in their three couches and two chairs by setting the furniture pieces on fire at their backyard. Their choice of bed bug treatment though proved to be more of a problem than help as the flames quickly caught their house nearby. And despite their efforts to put out the flame, their home still continued to blaze.

It has long been established that bed bugs can cause of a lot problems. However, their recent surge in number proves to be too much to handle for many of their victims, especially to those who don’t know how to properly get rid of them. Take, for example, the two men from Indianapolis who accidentally burned their house while trying to eliminate bed bugs.

According to the report, the house was located at 900 block of Lexington Avenue. Monday morning at 11:33 am, fire crews went to the said location to put out the blazing home. But though the fire died out soon after, sadly for the owners, it left $15 000 worth of damages.

It was said that the fire started after the two men dragged three couches and two chairs into their backyard and set them on fire. They meant to kill the bed bugs on the items. However, despite their effort to put it out, the fire quickly lit their home in flames.

An attempt to exterminate bed bugs led to a house fire in the Fountain Square area of Indianapolis Monday. Crews went to a home in the 900 block of Lexington Avenue at 11:33 a.m. for the fire, Indianapolis Fire Department officials said. Two men were trying to get the bed bugs out of their home, so they dragged three couches and two chairs into the backyard, IFD officials said. They intentionally set them on fire with a lighter and piece of newspaper, but the fire quickly lit the nearby home on fire.

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) Richmond is the 10th worst city for bed bugs according a recent study conducted by Rollins Inc.

The company operates seven pest control brands across the nation, it ranked the 50 worst cities based on the number of bed bug treatment calls from January to December 2011, along with their shift, if any, in ranking compared to the year before.

    Here are the top 10:

Richmond jumped up 6 spots on the list compared to 2010.

Bed bugs can multiply quickly, so early detection is critical to preventing a larger infestation. And since infestations can be difficult to control, Rollins advises vacationers to take the proper precautions before enjoying spring break activities to avoid contact with and spreading the blood-suckers.

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, bed bugs can carry more than 30 different human pathogens, but there is no evidence that bed bugs can transmit diseases. Their bites can; however, leave itchy welts on their victims. Red marks or swelling may also develop.

LOS ANGELES (CBS) Los Angeles is among the topten cities inthe nation with the most bed bugs, according to a study released Wednesday by Orkin.

Orkin announced its top 50 bed bug cities for 2011, and the City of Angelsranked fifth. Cincinnati came in at number one, followed by Chicago, Detroit and Denver.

The study ranked cities in order of the number of bed bug treatments Orkin preformed from Jan. to Dec. 2011.

Los Angeles jumped from 25th place in the 2010 rankings to fifth in 2011. New York ranked ninth, down two spots from the previous year.

In 2011, Orkins parent company, Rollins, saw a 33.6 percent increase in bed bug business compared to 2010, the study said.

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, bed bugs can carry more than 30 different human pathogens, but there is no evidence that bed bugs can transmit diseases. Their bites can, however, leave itchy welts on their victims. Red marks or swelling may also develop, the study said.

The bed bugs are alive and biting in Los Angeles, so much so the city vaulted Wednesday into the top five of an exterminators Top 50 Bed Bug Cities List.

According to the pest-control company Orkin, Los Angeles climbed 25 spots to place No. 5 in its annual list of bug-infested cities.

Cincinnati and Chicago held on to the top spots, finishing No.1 and 2 respectively, but several large metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles showed increases in the number of bed-bug treatments in 2011.

The Bay Area, for example, jumped 35 spots on the top-50 list to No. 12.

I think everybody in the county ought to be concerned, Harrison said. You have to be cautious where you travel and not stay in hotels where you have bed bugs. The worry isnt as much about getting bit as it is about bringing them into the home.

Harrison said bed bugs carry human pathogens and can leave itchy welts on victims but do not carry diseases. He estimatedOrkin has treated thousands of homes and businesses in California, and the company owns only about a 20% market share.

Orkins study reportedthe bed-bug extermination business was up 33.6% last year. Harrison said treatments in Los Angeles range from several hundred dollars to more than $1,000.

If you find yourself in a situation with an infestation, its not pleasant, he said. Changing your life for months is not fun.

The Northern California cities of Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto were grouped together for the study and collectively finished 41st. It was the third and final California area on the top 50 list.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) –

Cincinnati maintains its position as the #1 city for bed bugs, according to a report released by Orkin on Friday.

    1. Cincinnati 2. Chicago 3. Detroit 4. Denver 5. Los Angeles 6. Columbus, Ohio 7. Dallas 8. Washington, D.C. 9. New York City 10. Richmond, VA

“The changes in some cities’ rankings show bed bugs continue to be a problem in most areas of the U.S.,” said Orkin entomologist and Technical Services Director Ron Harrison, Ph.D. “Several of the top 50 cities have large, busy airports, and there could be a correlation between increased travel and bed bug activity. The changes could also be because the bed bug population is increasing overall, or even because the public is becoming more aware of bed bugs and has become better adept at identifying them.”

Bed bugs can multiply quickly, so early detection is critical to preventing a larger infestation. And since infestations can be difficult to control, Orkin advises vacationers to take the proper precautions before enjoying spring break activities to avoid contact with and spreading the blood-suckers.

“Bed bugs can be found in other places than the bedroom,” warns Dr. Harrison. “They’re great hitchhikers and tend to settle where people sleep, particularly in hotel rooms, but they can also crawl into personal belongings and make their way into planes, gyms, offices, stores and worse, your home.”

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, bed bugs can carry more than 30 different human pathogens, but there is no evidence that bed bugs can transmit diseases. Their bites can, however, leave itchy welts on their victims. Red marks or swelling may also develop.

“One thing that’s not a factor is sanitation,” said Dr. Harrison. “Be sure to do some investigating when you arrive at your hotel, whether it’s a one-star or a five-star property. Bed bugs are nocturnal and resemble apple seeds in size and color, so check mattress seams, sheets and furniture, behind baseboards, electrical outlet plates and picture frames for small reddish-brown spots and lightly-colored molted bed bug skins.”

When traveling, think of the acronym S.L.E.E.P. to remember the following action steps to help avoid bringing bed bugs home with you:

Orkin says their bed bug business is up 33-percent over 2010.

A proposed bed bug bill focused on landlords and tenants was opposed in Connecticut due to its high-costing bed bug treatment requirement. To help the pests’ victims cut down on expenses, BedBugControl911.com suggested that a pesticide exempt bed bug spray must be used.

Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) March 12, 2012

According to the report, the bill mandates landlords to hire professional exterminators within ten days after knowing about the infestation. It’s said that treatment could cost landlords $800 per unit. In case they choose to solve the problem themselves though but failed, the bill also requires them to lessen the tenants’ rent and to pay for their temporary housing.

On the side of the tenants, the proposal orders them to implement the steps dictated by the certified bed bug exterminators hired by the landlords. If proven that they did not follow the instructions, the bill allows landlords to sue the tenants.

Though property owners and realtors agree with the proponents that something must be done with the problem about bed bugs, many of them think that the bill is of several loopholes. Others, like Connecticut Realtor Donna Karnes, even stated that it is biased against renters, ignoring owners of hotels and motels.

To help both landlords and tenants eliminate bed bugs without spending too much, BedBugControl911.com suggested the use of a pesticide exempt solution. The product is a big aid to get rid of bed bugs yourself effectively.

Already been proven effective by many, the product was a big help to eliminate bed bugs in Florida and in many other states. And because it is effective, safe and affordable, it is highly recommended by the site to anybody who is preparing for bed bug infestation or already suffering from the pests.

      (PRWEB) March 08, 2012

According to an online news site, krcrtv.com, bed bugs attacked Motel 6 in Redding California last February. The motel, which stands at Twin View Boulevard, gave its customer Mike Rigney more than 200 bed bug bites, the report said.

Shasta County Environmental Health Division checked the motel and found out that eleven of its rooms were infested. The affected rooms were blocked off and professionally treated.

When asked about bed bugs, Cindy Lakman, the county’s public health nurse said, …Lots of times, they come from other hotels, other places and they hitch a ride in your luggage. Most people who get bitten by bed bugs don’t know they’ve been bitten; they don’t have any welts.”

To help hotel owners and other bed bug sufferers solve their bed bug problems, BedBugControl911.com advised the use of a newly developed bed bug solution. Called as Bed Bug Bully, the product offers a non-toxic way of getting rid of the pests. And as a green bed bug control aid, many are impressed with the way it works.

Made from 100 percent natural ingredients, Bed Bug Bully had been a big help to those who suffered from bed bug infestation without requiring evacuation. With its effectiveness and greenness, it makes an effective and affordable help in getting rid of bed bugs yourself.

For bed bug victims to see how effective and eco-friendly the product is, the site is giving out free samples of it.

Past bedbug treatments involved highly toxic chemicals, but recent innovations in organic and non-toxic pest control have helped companies like Planet Amazing bring safer, better products to the public.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) February 19, 2012

New bedbug cure products are safer and better, according to a new report from Planet Amazing. Improvements include much lower cost for treatment, inability for insects to develop immunity, completely non-toxic ingredients that are safe for humans, pets and plants, as well as other benefits, says the report.

Planet Amazing's new products have all these benefits, according to Planet Amazing spokesperson Justin Douglas. “For example, Bedbug Shredder has three steps with the first step being a dust that attaches itself to the legs of bed bugs. The dust is used on carpets and is non-toxic. Mr. Douglas says that scientists studied the bugs for years before coming up with a way to actually disable them from movement using the dust.

The problem is serious, says Mr. Douglas: “People are looking for a bed bug cure. Serious bed bug infestations and chronic attacks can cause anxiety, stress and insomnia. Development of refractory delusional parasitosis is possible, as victims develop an overwhelming obsession with bedbugs.”

According to news service CNN, bedbugs have increased to epidemic proportions in the last 10 years. For example, CNN says that in New York City for the two year period of 2003 to 2004 there were a total of 82 occurrences of bed bug infestations, while in the year of 2009 to 2010 in the same city there were over 9,500 occurrences of bed bugs, which is more than a 10,000% increase. CNN says, “a professional extermination to deal with a problem that all too often won't go away costs somewhere between $200 to $1500 — per room,” making it expensive to deal with the problem.

“BedBug Shredder can solve this problem with the three step scientific process,” Mr. Douglas says. “Its a complete three part system that kills every last bedbug in your house. Because its a mechanical killer, bedbugs cannot become immune to its killing strength like ordinary pesticides. Its ingredients are recognized by the United States EPA as GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe and Effective). Its main ingredients are non-toxic to humans and pets, so you can apply it yourself without hiring an expensive service.”

“Bedbugs have to travel across floors and carpets to get to your bed,” Mr. Douglas explains. “Scientists discovered a way to stop them without using chemicals, and it is the first step of our process. We make sure they never make the trip across your carpet to your bed or anywhere else. BedBugShredder carpet dust kills bed bugs by simply shredding their intestines. The rough microcrystal spears are specially refined to destroy bed bugs mechanically and not chemically.

These micro crystals attach to the legs and bodies of bed bugs as they crawl across it. When they groom it off, the crystals are like ground glass in the bugs intestines, shredding them from the inside out, resulting in internal bleeding, mass dehydration and ultimately death. Because of the microscopic size of the crystals in BedBug Shredder, carpet dust is harmless to your family and pets as their intestinal tracts are hundreds times the size of that of the bed bugs. Its fine white powder lightly covers the immediate area of infestation, typically around the bed, furniture, for just a few days, that's all it takes for those areas to be bed bug free. It's simple to apply and you never have to worry about it harming your family or pets.”

Three step process combines non-toxic mechanical methods with laundry additive and spray to create a complete solution. Austin, TX (PRWEB) January 17, 2012 Scientists have combined three different steps to create Planet Amazing 's "Bed Bug Shredder" product, with the first step being a dust that attaches itself to the legs of bed bugs , according to Planet Amazing spokesperson Justin Douglas . The dust is used on carpets and is non-toxic. Mr. Douglas says that scientists studied the bugs for years before coming up with a way to actually disable them from movement using the dust. The problem is serious, says Mr. Douglas: "People are looking for a bed bug cure [1] . Serious bed bug infestations [2] and chronic attacks can cause anxiety, stress, and insomnia. Development of refractory delusional parasitosis is possible, as victims develop an overwhelming obsession with bedbugs." According to news service CNN, bedbugs have increased to epidemic proportions in the last 10 years. For example, CNN says that in New York City for the two year period of 2003 to 2004 there were a total of 82 occurences of bed bug infestations, while in the year of 2009 to 2010 in the same city there were over 9,500 occurences of bed bugs, which is more than a 10,000% increase. CNN says "a professional extermination to deal with a problem that all too often won't go away costs somewhere between $200 to $1500 -- per room," making it expensive to deal with the problem. "BedBug Shredder can solve this problem with the three step scientific process," Mr. Douglas says. "It's a complete three part system that kills every last bedbug in your house. Because it's a mechanical killer bedbugs cannot become immune to it's killing strength like ordinary pesticides. Its ingredients are recognized by the United States EPA as GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe and Effective). Its main ingredients are non-toxic to humans and pets so you can apply it yourself without hiring an expensive service." "Bedbugs have to travel across floors and carpets to get to your bed," Mr. Douglas explains. "Scientists discovered a way to stop them without using chemicals, and it is the first step of our process. We make sure they never make the trip across your carpet to your bed or anywhere else. BedBugShredder carpet dust kills bed bugs by simply shredding their intestines. The rough microcrystal spears are specially refined to destroy bed bugs mechanically and not chemically.
